Seemed like “A Right Royal Affair” indeed at the relevantly themed annual Durban July 2011 held at the Greyville Racecourse.
The theme, inspired by the two most prestigious weddings of the year, was carried out stylishly by most of who attended.
The glamorous social and sporting affair attracted over 50 000 folk from around South Africa. Fashionista’s, famous faces and socialites showed up, some wanting to grasp the attention of fashion judges and press photographers, some wanting to gamble and some just simply used the event as an excuse to play dress up.
Fashion competitions were held, and as you can imagine, the competition was pretty tight. The winners of the ‘Most Striking Couple’ Anel Botha (designer) and Graham Calver kept it elegant, poised, graceful and to the point and managed to impress the judges.
Then Tamara Dyson winner of the Young Designer award created her garment from heavy upholstery with the fabric divided into shapes by bold piping creating a strong tailored look with a few details from the traditional Elizabethan era. The student attends the Design Academy of Fashion and won herself the prize of a five day trip to London to attend the 2012 Graduate Fashion Week, a R10 000 cash prize from Vodacom and various tasteful fashion items.
